Attached is the March Officers meeting agenda. Let me know if you have any additions. In response to your request, I will be sending out a brief message to all members one week before the monthly staff meeting. After spending 12-hours in a planning workshop this weekend it seems we have discussed a lot of things over the past few days. For those of you that were unable to attend the workshop you should be aware that a number of goals were set and the work plans to achieve those goals will be distributed. I should have a document to everyone by March 12th. At this point I only need to remind everyone that now we have set a planning process in motion, the hard work begins.

I want to again thank those that were able to give some of their time to the effort. I believe we held open and frank conversations, that if noting else, assisted me in defining some of the issues within this organization. Hopefully the workshop will help you in defining what we are all about and what we value as a team. Just today I met with two groups as a follow up to our workshop. I also want to recognize and thank the Board for their presence and participation.

Over the next week the apparatus, training and Information technology committees will be meeting. I will set out the ground rules and list what needs to be accomplished in each committee. More of an update will be given at the March Officers meeting. If you are not getting the minutes to the officers meetings, and/or if your supervisor is not relaying what is said at those meetings, please let me know. Communications must take place at the supervisor’s level to be effective.

The Station 1 remodel drawings have been submitted to the City Building Department for permits. Unless the City requires significant changes we should begin the demo in mid to late March. As a follow up to last month’s simulator each platoon will hold a brief hose drill this month. A shift completed theirs today. I will be developing a job description and job advertisement for the Administrative Assistant / Finance Officer position that Pat will retire from in July. I would like to fill that position this spring and give enough time for Pat to train the new employee.

I am still accepting resumes for provisional appointments by the end of this month. Captain Green will be leaving in March and I will make provisional appointments based on that upcoming vacancy. With input from the training committee, I hope to be able to move ahead on a permanent promotion process soon.

Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions.
